_ After
a one year hiatus, The Pin Show announces its return with new direction
and partnership. Julie McCullough Kim, Executive Producer and Founder
of The Pin Show, brings on partner and newly named Executive Director,
Bryan Embry. Embry is owner and Director of the Ross Akard Gallery at The Fairmont Dallas.
The 2012 Pin Show will be held at The Fairmont Dallas in the Regency
Ballroom on February 23, 2012. Applications will begin July 1,2011,
with a deadline of October 15, 2011. Designers will also have the
opportunity to apply for the Artist in Residence Program, in which one
designer will be awarded the three month on site residency through The
Fairmont Dallas, which will provide a hotel suite apartment and onsite
working design studio in partnership with the Ross Akard Gallery. This
residency will begin on January 1, 2012. In addition, The Pin Show will
award more than $2000 in grants to individual designers to use towards
furthering their independent fashion businesses.
The high energy annual event has become known for featuring the latest in locally produced, independent fashion on a runway, boasting over 150 looks from more than 30 designers. While most designers are Texas based, the most recent Pin Show featured designers from Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. The Pin Show expects to see growth in its national reach with the introduction of the Artist in Residence Program and affiliation with The Fairmont Dallas, known for its support of the arts.
Independent Designers Rachel Nichelson and Julie McCullough Kim founded the Pin Show in 2007 to provide emerging fashion industry designers, photographers, artists, stylists and retail buyers with a profound launching platform for independent work in the fashion industry. After three successful shows, Nichelson moved on to concentrate on her own women’s wear line. McCullough Kim knew she wanted to continue and grow the impact of the event and, signing on Embry, has found the perfect partner to take The Pin Show to the next level, which will provide designers with more exposure and opportunity.
The Pin Show gives regional boutiques and buyers an opportunity to view independent lines during one showcase as well as meet with designers and discuss future business opportunities. In addition, guests will have a unique fashion experience that is generally reserved for high-end designers and their clientele. The show has been the first of its kind in the Southwest region to showcase a growing group of slow-fashion designers on one runway for an audience of over 1500 people, ranging from fashion hipsters to Dallas’ influential fashion industry leaders.
